Greatest acid rain damage to forests

Temperate forests are the most seriously affected by acid precipitation (acid rain), atmospheric fallout of industrial pollution. The Czech Republic has the greatest damage to forests caused by acid rain: 71% of the country's forests are affected.   The problem is particularly acute in northern Bohemia as a result of pollution from the large quantities of fossil fuels burned by the neighbouring industries of the former East Germany and of southern Poland (Silesia).
