The best-selling social simulation series is The Sims, developed by Electronic Arts subsidiary Maxis. The first game in the series, simply called The Sims, was released on 9 February 2000. As of the series' 20th anniversary in 2020, the four main-series games in the The Sims franchise (as well as various ports and spin-offs) have reportedly sold more than 200 million copies across various different formats.
