George Jones (USA, 1931-2013) scored hits on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart for seven consecutive decades (1950s-2010s). Jones’ seven-decade span of Hot Country Songs entries began with “Why Baby Why” in 1955 and has featured 13 chart-toppers, from “White Lightning” in 1959 to “I Always Get Lucky with You” in 1983, 69 Top 10s and an unrivalled 155 hits in total. Arguably his most famous song, “He Stopped Loving Her Today”, spent a week at No.1 in July 1980.
Dolly Parton (1960s-2020s) is the only other artist with seven decades of hit-making success on Hot Country Songs, taking a share of the record when “Cuddle Up, Cozy Down Christmas”, a duet with Michael Bublé, debuted at No.48 on 2 January 2021.
