The first deaf actor to play a live action Marvel superhero is Lauren Ridloff (USA), who played Makkari in The Eternals, which premiered on 18 October 2021.

Ridloff was born deaf to hearing parents. She first developed an interest in the arts while studying at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington, Virginia, USA. Prior to her appearance in The Eternals, Ridloff had starred in The Walking Dead television series, as well as on stage in productions including Children of a Lesser God for which she earned a Tony Award nomination for 'Best Actress in a Play'.

She plays Makkari in The Eternals, who possesses superspeed powers. Following the release of The Eternals, Ridloff was quick to praise the deaf talent who came before her.
