David Jones (UK) holds the record for the annual Coal Carrying Championship race at Gawthorpe, West Yorkshire, carrying a 50 kg (110 lb) bag over the 1012.5 m (1107.2 yd) course in 4 min 6 sec on two separate occasions: 1 April 1991 and 17 April 1995.
Each year, competitors set off from the Royal Oak Public House in Ossett, with men carrying a 50 kg (110 lb) bag, and women a 20 kg (44 lb) bag of coal. The championship was founded in 1963.
