The fastest time to complete the 253.5-m (831-ft 8-in) obstacle course of the World Wife-Carrying Championships, held annually in Sonkajärvi, Finland (first held 1992) is 56.9 seconds by Margo Uusorg and Sandra Kullas (both Estonia) on 1 July 2006. This is the fastest time achieved since the rule for a minimum wife-weight was introduced in 2002.
NB the previous record of 55.5 seconds was achieved prior to the 2002 rule change, requiring the wife to weigh a minimum of 49 kg (108 lb). Therefore, the record has been 'broken' with post-2002 fastest times. If the wife does weigh less, a weighted rucksack must be carried.
