The tallest wind turbine is an experimental prototype with a hub height of 185 metres (606 ft), built by Goldwind (China) in Jiangsu, China. It was commissioned on 11 September 2023.
The 185 m turbine is designed for on-shore installations in locations with relatively low average wind speeds. By raising the hub up to the height of a 60-storey building, the rotor blades are placed in a more consistent stream of high-altitude wind. This is expected to increase power generation by around eight percent annually.
The tower itself comprises a lower section made from precast reinforced concrete segments, and a steel upper structure.
