The most travelled man in the horseback era is believed to have been the Methodist preacher Bishop Francis Asbury (b. Handsworth, W Mids, 1745), who travelled 425,000km 264,000miles in North America between 1771 and 1815. During this time he preached some 16,000 sermons and ordained nearly 3000 ministers.
