Adam Rainer (Austria) (1899–1950), measured 1.18 m (3 ft 10.5 in) at the age of 21. He then suddenly started growing at a rapid rate and by 1931, he had reached 2.18 m (7 ft 1.83 in). He became so weak as a result that he was bedridden for the rest of his life.
At the time of his death on 4 March 1950, aged 51, he measured 2.34 m (7 ft 8 in) and was the only person in medical history to have been both a dwarf and a giant.
