The most premature quadruplets are the Bryant Quads – Lainey, Kali, Lennon and Koen – who were delivered to Rebecca and Lavareis Bryant (all USA) at a gestational age of 23 weeks 4 days – 115 days early – at the University of Alabama at Birmingham hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, on 31 May 2024. Their expected due date had been 23 September 2024.
At birth, the quads weighed as follows: Lainey (577 g; 1 lb 4.4 oz), Kali (597 g; 1 lb 5 oz), Lennon (647 g; 1 lb 6.8 oz) and Koen (611 g; 1 lb 5.6 oz). After receiving several months of specialist care in the Level IV RNICU (regional newborn intensive care unit) at the hospital, all the quadruplets had been discharged by 10 December 2024. They celebrated their first birthday at home in Auburn, Alabama, on 31 May 2025, where they have become affectionately known as the “Quads of Aubs”.
With three other children already at home, the quads take the total Bryant household to the size of a baseball team. Their father, Lavareis (a police officer), is a twin himself and his sister has also had twins, so multiple births clearly run in the genes. Rebecca, who is a cardiovascular ICU nurse, believed that she may be having twins, but both parents were taken aback to find they’d be having quads during their first ultrasound scan.
Overseeing the delivery of the quadruplets was Dr Ayodeji Sanusi, accompanied by neonatologists Drs Colm Travers, Wally Carlo, Viral Jain and Amelia Schuyler.
The Bryant Quads surpassed a record that had stood for nearly 30 years: Kathryn Tepper (Australia) delivered a set of quadruplets, who were 15 weeks (104 days) early: Ben Stewart, Hannah Elise, Ryan Colin and Lisa Nicole were born at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on 20 February 1997.
