The longest in publishing history is the ongoing biography of Sir Winston Churchill, begun by his son Randolph (d. 1968) and continued by Martin (now Sir Martin) Gilbert. The book currently comprises eight volumes plus a total of 16 companion volumes, all containing around 10 million words.
