The Encyclopædia Britannica was published continuously from 1768–2010. The final mass-produced edition was the revised 15th edition, last printed in 2010, which comprised 32 volumes and more than 44 million words. It was announced on 14 March 2012 that the printed editions would cease to be available once the current stock ran out; however, the digital version continues to be on sale.
A special edition, which remains available as of November 2013, has been billed as the final edition. It had just 10 sets released worldwide and retailed at a price of £9,999 ($16,000) per set. Also split across 32 volumes and including 44 million words, it contains 24,000 photos, maps and illustrations and more than 65,000 articles written by 4,000 different contributors. The set weighs 65 kg (143 lb) in total and requires 132 cm (4 ft 4 in) of shelf space.
