The ten part World War II mini-series Band of Brothers, produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks (both USA) in association with HBO, cost $125 million (£79 million) to make and took nine months to shoot at Hatfield Studios, Hertfordshire, UK from March 2000.
The series, adapted from Stephen Ambrose's best selling book, had a speaking cast of around 500 actors and used 10,000 extras to tell the true story of Easy Company, the 506th Regiment of the American 101st Airborne Division who operated behind enemy lines and captured Hitler's Bavarian Alps hideaway.
Starring Damian Lewis, the supporting cast included David Schwimmer, Dexter Fletcher and Tom Hanks, who also directed an episode.
