The longest-running comedy series is Last of the Summer Wine, first broadcast on the BBC (UK) on 12 November 1973 and originally starring Bill Owen as 'Compo', Peter Sallis as 'Clegg' and Michael Bates as 'Blamire' (all UK). The 235th and final episode was aired on 18 April 2004.
