The most prolific television writer in the world was Ted (later Lord) Willis (UK), whose total output since 1942 is estimated to be 20 million words. From 1949 until his death in 1992 he wrote 41 TV series, including the first seven years and 2.25 million words of Dixon of Dock Green, which ran on BBC television, UK, from 1955 to 1976.

He also wrote 37 stage plays and 39 feature films.
