The largest mint in the world is the United States mint facility located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Constructed during the period 1965-69 on Independence Mall, the Philadelphia Mint covers 4.7 ha (11.5 acres). In 2001 the Philadelphia Mint produced 9.5 billion coins - nearly 38 million a day! One high-speed stamping machine called Graebner Press can produce coins at a rate of 42,000 per hour, and the record production was 12,647,096,000 coins in 2000. The sister mint in Denver, Colorado set a new record for coin production by a single facility in 2000, with over 15.4 billion coins.
