According to the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA), the Arctic has an area of 15,558,000 km² (6,006,977 square miles), making it the smallest of the five major oceans. It has an average depth of 1,205 metres (3,953 feet), meaning that it is also the shallowest ocean.
