The first winter ski expedition to the North Pole was achieved by Børge Ousland (Norway) and Mike Horn (South Africa) in March 2006.

Børge Ousland and Mike Horn reached the North Pole, unsupported after two months on the ice.

This journey was so tough that it is thought it will be a very long time until someone tries to repeat the expedition.

This record was confirmed by the Polar Expeditions Classification Scheme (PECS).
