The first solo unsupported ski expedition to the North Pole from Canada was achieved by Pen Hadow (UK) on 19 May 2003.

After two months of isolation on the constantly shifting and cracking Arctic Ocean, Pen finally reached the Pole on 20th May 2003, some 64 days after setting out.

"I've done it," Pen said when he reached the Pole. "The overwhelming feeling is of utter relief. But I am exhausted. Exhausted."

This record was confirmed by the Polar Expeditions Classification Scheme (PECS).
