The first woman to climb Shisha Pangma (8,027 m; 26,335 ft) in the Langtang Himal is Junko Tabei (Japan), who reached the top with the assistance of bottled oxygen on 30 April 1981.

Tabei ascended via the Northern Route with an all-female support team of Rinzing Phinzo and Gyalbu Jiabu.
