The first double amputee skateboarder to complete a loop-the-loop is Felipe Nunes (Brazil) in Vista, California, USA, on 8 October 2019.
The Brazilian Felipe Nunes is the world’s first adaptive skateboarder to complete a loop-the-loop. The achievement happened at the “Tony Hawk's Loop of Death” in San Diego, California (USA), on 8 October 2019.
Felipe also participated in the world’s most well-known amateur skateboard tournament, Tampa AM, in Florida, in which he was sponsored by Tony Hawk. Felipe achieved 14th place even competing with non-adaptive skateboarders and because of his efforts, he earned a prize of US$ 1,000 from the tournament’s sponsors.
Nunes was born in Curitiba, Brazil, where at the age of 6 he became a double amputee due to a train accident. Felipe is now 21 years old and has been into skateboarding for 8 years, inspired by other adaptive skateboarders, such as Italo Romano and OG de Souza.
His first skateboard came as a gift given by a neighbour, and he began using it instead of a wheelchair. It was more practical for Felipe. He began enjoying skateboarding and started learning tricks until he became pro at 21.
Despite any adversity, Nunes is always happy. A term he frequently uses is “No Excuses”, as challenges are a motivation to him.
