The world's largest vineyard is in the Languedoc region of France, and extends over the Mediterranean slopes between the Pyrenees and the Rhône in the départements Gard, Hérault, Aude and Pyrenees-Orientales. It covers an area of 840,000 ha (2,075,685 acres), 52.3 % of which is 'monoculture viticole', i.e. only wine crops.
