The world's most northerly vineyard is L'Esprit d'Edvard Munch, Horten, Norway, which lies at latitude 59º45'N. The first 2,000 Pinot Noir vines were planted by the owner, Svein Erik Hansen (Norway) on the 0.5-ha (1.2-acre) estate, in 1992 and the first wine produced in 1995.
