Twelve Dukes of Cornwall became (in accordance with the grant by the Crown in Parliament) peers at birth as the eldest sons of a sovereign; and the 9th Earl of Chichester inherited his earldom at his birth on 14 April 1944, 54 days after his father's death.

The youngest age at which a person has had a peerage conferred on him is seven days old in the case of the Earldom of Chester, which was bestowed on HRH the Prince George (later George IV) on 19 August 1762.
