The Sanson family (France) supplied executioners through several generations, from 1688 to 1847. Charles-Henri Sanson, known as Monsieur de Paris, despatched nearly 3,000 victims in two years during the Terror, from 1793-4, including the king, Louis XVI, on 21 January 1793.
