In 1843 Allan Mair, at age 82, was executed for murder in the UK. He was hanged sitting in a chair, as he was incapable of standing up. The oldest person hanged in the UK this century was a man of 71 named Charles Frembd (sic), hanged at Chelmsford Gaol on 4 Nov 1914 for the murder of his wife at Leytonstone, London.
