The record verdict by a jury in a libel case for an individual is $58 million (£34.3 million), awarded to Vic Feazell, a former district attorney, on 20 Apr 1991 at Waco, Texas, USA. He claimed that he had been libelled by a Dallas-based television station and one of its reporters in 1985 and that this had ruined his reputation. The parties reached an out-of-court settlement on 29 Jun 1991, but neither side would disclose the amount.
