Simpson, an American football player and actor, was on trial for the 12 June 1994 murder of his ex-wife, Nicole, and a waiter, Ronald Goldman. He was acquitted of the charges when the jury reached a verdict of not guilty on 3 October 1995.
The verdict in Michael Jackson's child molestation trial on 13 June 2005 was broadcast live on 13 national US networks into 24.6 million households in the USA; in the UK, the verdict was seen by an estimated 8 million people.
