As of 10 April 2021, “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd (Canada, b. Abel Tesfaye) had spent 43 weeks in the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s (IFPI) biggest-selling digital single worldwide in 2020 (2.72 billion “subscription stream equivalents” across all digital formats) and Spotify’s most streamed track of 2020 (1.6 billion) topped Billboard’s year-end Hot 100 Songs chart after a remarkable chart run that featured four non-consecutive weeks at No.1. To date, the track’s final week inside the Top 5 was on the Hot 100 dated 13 March 2021, when it climbed to No.3 in its 65th week on the chart.

“Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran and “Closer” by The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey had previously shared the honours for the most weeks in the Top 5 – 27. Both tracks relinquished their hold on the Top 5 in 2017.

The first Billboard Hot 100 chart was published on 4 August 1958.
