The first female quadriplegic competitive racing driver is Nathalie McGloin (UK), as of 2 May 2015.
Nathalie usually competes in a Porsche Cayman S with modified controls to allow her to accelerate and brake using her hands. The hand controls are set to the right of the steering column, where her left hand is free to steer.
From the age of 16, Nathalie has been completely paralysed from the chest down due to a road traffic accident, but this has only inspired her to take on new challenges. For the purposes of this record, "tetraplegia" and "quadriplegia" are the same condition.
She was initially training for the Paralympics as part of Team GB’s wheelchair rugby team until she discovered her true passion for motor racing, and has not looked back since!
In 2017, Nathalie also became the FIA Disability & Accessibility Commission President, as well as an ambassador for 'Wings for Life' and 'Dare To Be Different.' Her personal motto is “Anything is possible. Quite simply, because it is."
