The cover, titled 'The Transgender Tipping Point' is the first time an openly transgender person has featured on the front of TIME. In 2021, Elliot Page became the first openly transgender man to appear on the cover of TIME Magazine.
Cox - who starred in Orange Is the New Black and was nominated for both the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy and Drama Series - told TIME: “Some folks, they just don’t understand. And they need to get to know us as human beings,” adding "others are just going to be opposed to us forever. But I do believe in the humanity of people and in people’s capacity to love and to change.”
