Most legal immigrants

The country which regularly receives the most legal immigrants is the United States. The Immigration and Naturalization Service (USA) website shows that 850,000 immigrants were granted legal permanent resident status in 2000 alone. Between 1820 and 1996 the USA received 63,140,227 official immigrants. In 1996 the illegal alien population was 5,000,000, of which Mexicans were 2,700,000. The total illegal alien population for 2003 was estimated at 8 million.
