A 40-cm (15.75-in) plaster statue of the Virgin Mary, bought by a curate from Civitavecchia, Italy, at the Marian shrine at Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 1994 was given by him to the Grigori family in Civitavecchia. Between 2 February and 17 March 1995 the statue appeared to cry tears of blood on 14 days, including one manifestation witnessed by the diocesan bishop. (There have been numerous reports of such statues but most, unlike the Civitavecchia statue, never receive any form of recognition from the Roman Catholic Church.)
