A total of 23,207 entries across 83 categories were submitted for consideration for the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, which took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California, USA, on 14 March 2021. The “Product Eligibility Period” for the COVID-19-delayed 2021 edition of the Grammys ran from 1 September 2019 to 31 August 2020. The four “General Field” categories – Album of the Year (won by Taylor Swift’s folklore), Record of the Year (Billie Eilish’s “Everything I Wanted”), Song of the Year (H.E.R.’s “I Can’t Breathe”) and Best New Artist (Megan Thee Stallion) – were once again the main focus of the ceremony, with the latter category featuring eight contenders for the first time instead of the usual five.

The 23,207 entries spanned the genres of pop, dance/electronic, rock, alternative, R&B, rap, country, new age, jazz, gospel/contemporary Christian, Latin, American roots, reggae, classical, global music and contemporary instrumental, with additional fields for children’s music, spoken word, comedy, musical theatre, music video/film, historical, composing/arranging and production.

Judging for an 84th category, Best Immersive Audio Album, was postponed ahead of the 2021 Grammys as the “Best Immersive Audio Album Craft Committee was unable to meet” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
