In 1997 the UK had a yearly confectionery consumption bill of more than £5 billion (US$8,252,500,300), with an average of 15.9 kg (35 lb) per person.The average person in the UK munched their way through 16kg 35lb of sweets in 1997 ahead of America (10kg 22lb), France (9kg 19lb) and Japan (3kg 6.6lb), according to a report published by Cadbury and Trebor Bassett. Londoners eat the fewest sweets, spending £1.45 (US$2.39) per person a week, while those living in the West Country and Wales, spend the most with £2.09 (US$3.44).
