Most sixes in an over in international cricket

The fourth player in international cricket to smash six sixes off one over was Jaskaran Malhotra (USA, b. India), playing for the USA against Papua New Guinea at Oman’s Al Amerat Cricket Ground on 9 September 2021. Malhotra matched the devastating display of over-the-rope hitting first achieved by Herschelle Gibbs (South Africa) in an ICC World Cup match against the Netherlands in Basseterre, St Kitts, on 16 March 2007. Later that same year, Yuvraj Singh (India) produced 36 runs from one six-ball over in an ICC World Twenty20 group match against England in Durban, South Africa, on 19 September 2007. And on 3 March 2021, West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard (Trinidad & Tobago) became the third player to complete the full set of maximums, batting against Sri Lanka at Antigua’s Coolidge Cricket Ground.

The unfortunate bowlers were Daan van Bunge (Gibbs), Stuart Broad (Yuvraj), Akila Dananjaya (Pollard) and Gaudi Toka (Malhotra). Malhotra and Gibbs bludgeoned their six sixes in One-Day Internationals (ODI); Pollard and Yuvraj achieved theirs inTwenty20 Internationals (T20I).

Malhotra: 36 runs scored in an innings of 173 not out (124 balls), strike rate 139.51; Pollard: 36 runs scored in an innings of 38 (11 balls), strike rate 345.45; Yuvraj: 36 runs scored in an innings of 58 (16 balls), strike rate 362.50; Gibbs: 36 runs scored in an innings of 72 (40 balls), strike rate 180.00.

Nine batsmen have hit six sixes in an over in professional cricket. The first was Sir Garfield Sobers (b. Barbados), for Nottinghamshire against Glamorgan in the English County Championship on 31 August 1968.

Jaskaran Malhotra was born in Chandigarh, India, on 4 November 1989. The wicket-keeper/batter made his international debut for the USA (an associate member of the ICC) in a T20I in March 2019. His ODI debut came the following month. In six previous ODI innings before his knock of 173 not out against Papua New Guinea, his highest score was 18.
