Meg Lanning (Australia) took just 45 balls to reach three figures in a One-Day International (ODI) against New Zealand at the North Sydney Oval in Australia on 16 December 2012. The opener hit 18 fours and three sixes (i.e., 90 of her 100 runs came in boundaries). Her 146-run first-wicket stand with Alyssa Healy was broken when Lanning was caught for 103 in the 18th over of the hosts’ innings.

Lanning’s century was the joint fifth-fastest in men’s and women’s ODI cricket and six balls faster than the Australian men’s record, set by Glenn Maxwell against Sri Lanka in 2015. Only AB de Villiers (31 balls), Corey Anderson (36), Shahid Afridi (37) and Mark Boucher (44) have hit faster ODI 100s.

Lanning's 100 took 14 fewer balls than Sophie Devine's then-record 59-ball effort for New Zealand against Ireland in Dublin on 10 June 2018.
