The greatest shower on record occurred on the night of 16-17 Nov 1966, when the Leonid meteors (which recur every 331/4 years) were visible between western North America and eastern Russia (then USSR). It was calculated that meteors passed over Arizona, USA at a rate of 2,300 per min for 20 minutes from 5a.m. on 17 Nov 1966.
