At the 2020 Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Music Awards on 25 November, Tame Impala (Australia, aka vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker) won his third Album of the Year prize for The Slow Rush. Parker’s fourth studio album followed in the footsteps of his second (Lonerism) and third (Currents), which had been named Album of the Year in 2013 and 2015. Tame Impala matched the feat of Australian rock band Powderfinger, who won the Album of the Year award for Internationalist in 1999, Odyssey Number Five in 2001 and Vulture Street in 2003.
Tame Impala won five awards at the 2020 ARIA Music Awards: Album of the Year, Best Rock Album, Producer of the Year, Engineer of the Year (all for The Slow Rush) and Best Group (Parker employs a band for his touring commitments). Tame Impala was also nominated for Best Pop Release (“Lost in Yesterday”) and Best Video (“Is It True”).
Parker performed “On Track”, from The Slow Rush, at the 2020 awards ceremony.
Tame Impala has won 13 ARIA Music Awards from 29 nominations since 2010.
The 34th Annual ARIA Music Awards were broadcast from the Star Event Centre in Sydney, New South Wales, on 25 November 2020. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there was no live audience in attendance.
