The largest collection of energy drink cans consists of 2,000 items and was achieved by Gergő Borbély (Hungary) in Debrecen, Hungary, on 9 April 2026.

What began as a few cans left on a university shelf in 2008 grew into something far more lasting for Gergő: a meticulously organised collection of 2,000 unique energy drink cans from more than 500 brands and over 40 countries. The first item in the collection, that now spans decades of energy drink history, is a Hell can from 2008. The oldest item in the collection is a 1994 Semtex can, which he says 'looks more like a food tin can than a modern energy drink can'.

Over the years, the collection followed him from student accommodation to his family home and, finally, into his own house, where it is now fully displayed and documented. Among the most meaningful pieces are cans collected in Japan during his honeymoon, including a Chainsaw Man-themed can, as well as rare and unusual designs such as themed editions and early examples that reflect how energy drink packaging has evolved over time.

He had never thought of the collection as something that may be Guinness World Records-worthy until the arrival of his daughter in 2024 gave it a new sense of purpose. By then, the cans already traced Gergő’s journey through different chapters of his life; becoming a father made him want to turn that personal history into something lasting. He made a dedicated effort to photograph, catalogue and organise all 2,000 cans into a fully documented collection, almost doubling the previous record of 1,100.

Gergő plans to keep collecting, with each new addition marking another place, memory or moment in time.
