When Beyoncé (b. Beyoncé Knowles, USA) secured 11 nominations ahead of the staging of the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on 2 February 2025, she finally broke a long-standing tie with Lauryn Hill for the most nominated female artist in a single year. The previous record, 10, was achieved by Hill in 1999 and matched by “Queen Bey” in 2010. The latest round of nominations, live-streamed to music fans around the world on 8 November 2024, saw Beyoncé shortlisted for Album of the Year and Best Country Album (Cowboy Carter), Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Country Song (“Texas Hold ‘Em”), Best Country Solo Performance (“16 Carriages”), Best Country Duo/Group Performance (“II Most Wanted”, feat. Miley Cyrus), Best Americana Performance (“Ya Ya”), Best Pop Solo Performance (“Bodyguard”), Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“Levii’s Jeans”, feat. Post Malone) and Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Spaghetti”, feat. Linda Martell & Shaboozey).
Beyoncé’s six gramophone trophies from her 10 nominations in 2010 set the record for the most wins by a female artist in a single year – equalled by Adele in 2012.
Additionally, she has been nominated nine times in a single year on three occasions: 2017, 2021 and 2023. As of the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, Beyoncé had collected a total of 99 nominations – more than anyone else in the history of the Grammy Awards. (Her husband, Jay-Z, is in second place with 89 nominations in 1999–2025.)
Michael Jackson (12 in 1984) and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds (12 in 1997) are the only two artists to attract more than 11 nominations for a single ceremony. Kendrick Lamar (2016) and Jon Batiste (2022) have also nabbed 11 nods in a single year.
