The first eSports race win by an active Formula 1 driver was achieved by Charles Leclerc (MCO) in the 2020 F1 eSports Virtual Grand Prix on 5 April 2020. The Virtual Grand Prix was established during the COVID-19 pandemic, as a way for Formula 1 fans to keep engaged with the sport.
Charles Leclerc won at the virtual version of the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit (standing in for the Vietnamese Grand Prix). The 2020 F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix races were held within the game F1 2019 (Codemasters). He was driving for FDA Hublot Esports Team, the eSports team operated by the team that he drives for in real life.
