The fastest solo circumnavigation in a monoholl vessel by a female sailor is 87 days 2 hours 24 minutes 25 seconds by Clarisse Cremer (France), who completed the Vendée Globe round-the-world race – the "Everest of the Seas" – after arriving at Les Sables d'Olonnes in France on 3 February 2021. Cremer sailed in the IMOCA 60 Banque Populaire X.
Cremer finished the ninth edition of this gruelling race of more than 39,000 km (24,000 miles) in overall 12th place and was the first woman home. She beat the previous best female finish in a monohull of 94 days 4 hours 20 minutes 40 seconds, which was set 20 years earlier by Dame Ellen MacArthur (UK). A relative newcomer to the sport of ocean sailing, Cremer turned 31 years old as she crossed the Pacific. The Banque Populaire X, which had previously won the 2012–13 edition of the race as MACIF for Francois Gabart, suffered a broken hydro-generator during the event but otherwise survived tropical storm Theta, 40-knot (74-km/h; 46-mph) winds and 6-m-high (20-ft) waves. As she crossed the line at 15:44:25 UTC on 3 February, Cremer became only the seventh woman to rank as a Vendée Globe finisher.
