On 8-14 January 2021, "Drivers License" by Olivia Rodrigo (USA) registered 65,873,080 streams on Spotify, according to spotifycharts.com. Despite a relatively slow start that resulted in ‘just’ 6.14 million streams in the first 48 hours after its release on 8 January 2021, the viral hit managed 10-million-plus streaming figures for 12 consecutive days on 11-22 January. Across its most streamed seven-day period (11-17 January), the lovelorn ballad accumulated an incredible 89,013,286 plays globally.


“Drivers License” beat the 63,792,381 plays received by Ariana Grande's “7 rings” in the first seven days of release on 18-24 January 2019 (previously reported as 71,467,874 from figures not taken from Spotify’s Global Top 200 charts at spotifycharts.com). Rodrigo’s track came out on top despite accruing 1,540,075 streams on 8 January and 4,601,934 on 9 January. “7 rings” was streamed 8,554,577 times on day one and 9,452,208 on day two. (Note that “7 rings” recorded 64,329,861 streams for its highest one-week period, on 19-25 January 2019, and its highest 24-hour streaming figure was on 8 February: 10,445,538).

“Drivers License” had racked up 91,697,378 streams by 16 January and went over the 100-million mark with another 10,936,609 plays on 17 January. It was the fastest track to 100 million streams, 10 days after its release on 8 January.

As of 6 February 2021, “Drivers License” had been Spotify’s Global Top 200 No.1 for 28 days in a row and had amassed total streams of 280,167,173 during its 30 days on the chart (it debuted at No.46 before climbing to No.2 and then No.1). On 10 January, it took the No.1 spot from “Dákiti” by Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez.

Rodrigo, who was 17 years old at the time of her breakthrough chart/streaming success, was born in Temecula, California, on 20 February 2003. She first rose to prominence as the titular Grace Thomas in the film An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success (2015) before being cast as Paige Olvera in Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark (2016-19). In 2019, she landed the role of Gabriella Montez in another Disney production, mockumentary TV series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, for which she wrote her debut hit “All I Want”.
