Following his college basketball career with Wichita State, VanVleet was not selected by any NBA teams during the 2016 NBA draft. He signed to play in the 2016 NBA Summer League with the Toronto Raptors, before eventually securing himself a contract with the franchise. After a successful spell with the Raptors 905 of the NBA Development League, VanVleet became a key part of the Toronto Raptors' roster and played a big role in the franchise's first NBA Championship win in 2019.
