The first openly transgender Emmy nominee is Laverne Cox (USA), who was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on 10 July 2014

Laverne's nod came from her work on Orange is the New Black as Sophia Burset. She has plenty of other firsts in her career too, including being the first transgender person to be on the cover of Time magazine.
