The first person to kayak across the Atlantic east to west was Aleksander Doba (Poland), who kayaked solo 1714 nautical miles (3175 km or 1972 miles) from Dakar, Senegal to Acarau, Brazil in 99 days between 26 October 2010 and 2 February 2011.

Previously there was one instance of fully human-propelled kayak crossing of the Atlantic West to East by Peter Bray in 2001, and two East to West with the assistance of sail by Franz Romer in 1928 and Hannes Lindemann in 1956.
