At the age of 45 years 299 days, George Foreman (USA, b. 10 January 1949) became the oldest world heavyweight boxing champion when he knocked out title holder Michael Moorer (USA) in round 10 at the MGM-Grand in Las Vegas, USA, on 5 November 1994. Joe Bugner (b. 13 March 1950) was older when he won the world heavyweight title aged 48 years 3 months 22 days (when he defeated James Smith in the first round on 4 July 1998), but this was for the World Boxing Federation crown – regarded as a minor championship.
