On 26-27 November 1995, in the Second Test of the India vs. England series at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur, India, Neetu David (India) took eight second-innings wickets for 53 runs in 31.3 overs. To date (7 January 2021), the left-arm spin bowler is the only female cricketer to take as many as eight wickets in a single Test match innings.

David had five batsmen caught, two bowled and one lbw as England were dismissed for 194 in 126.3 overs. Needing 128 runs to win the match, India collapsed to 125 all out, with tail-ender David left stranded on 1 not out.

Despite the Indian’s eight-wicket salvo, Janette Brittin – one of the two England women David didn’t dismiss in England’s second innings – was named ‘Player of the Match’ for the 44 runs she scored in the visitors’ first innings.
