Previously there was one instance of fully human-propelled kayak crossing of the Atlantic West to East by Peter Bray in 2001, and two East to West with the assistance of sail by Franz Romer in 1928 and Hannes Lindemann in 1956. Doba was a septuagenarian during his last voyage.
